Feeling rather intrepid travelling alone, I decided on a jeep safari tour to see what Gran Canaria's landscape had to offer and to hopefully have the opportunity for a good natter with interesting people from around the world! ..and I was NOT disappointed! We were packed into jeeps, depending on what languages we spoke, and away we went....! along the bendy roads up into the mountains..breathing in the fresh mountain air gazing up at the majestic mountains that surrounded us, and the sea glistening in the sunshine below. Peace from the restaurant-owners trying to persuade me that I wanted a paella lunch at 12 o'clock ;0) We visited lakes...a camel park (for those who had chosen an uncomfortable 25 minute ride sitting on a chair hanging from a camel's back!)...whizzing through mountains...and ending with an exhilarating off-road ride- which was the highlight of the day!! The main guide always kept us entertained with his "British, rather crazy, humour", but combined this with interesting information about the vegetation and landscape of Gran Canaria. A perfect combination. An excellent trip to see the real Gran Canaria and to experience lots of laughter!
We can highly recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Iceland. The waterfall, in particular, was breathtaking! There was plenty of time to see everything and we didn't feel rushed. The guide was excellent and spoke superb English. We did this trip in February, and due to weather conditions, I would not recommend the trip to senior travellers and families with young children. However, the trip would be suitable for them in the summer months.
The trip itself was good, the tour guide knowledgable and the bus very comfortable. The only thing that could have been better was that we had to be there 15 minutes before departure time for the guide to go over some details - this never happened and the tour left about 15 minutes late and also had to go back to pick up a person at the Eiffel tower. Luckily the show was great and it made up for it all!
