Head to Poznan during the summer months, and you'll catch the best of the weather. May to September. If you do have to go during the winter months, then best to avoid January, as it's at its coldest.
There are several ways to explore Poznan. First, public transport is good with buses and trams. Taxis are also reliable and not too bad on the wallet. Then, of course, you can hire a car to head out and explore the region. But in the city, on foot is as good a method as any.
You'll find Poznan to be a safe city, as is much of Poland. Although with increased tourist numbers, petty crime will occur, so make sure to have any valuables secure as you explore.
