Dubai Expo 2021: Top Places to Visit During Your Stay

by Gavin Darvell

All set for Dubai Expo 2021? Yes, the exhibition of culture, technology and architecture is returning after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic. The excitement has been building ahead of its opening on 1st Oct and running until March 2022. So, although there is no immediate rush to visit, now is the perfect time to plan.

“Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”

The theme for the Expo is connecting minds, creating the future. The Expo looks at educating the world, to know what is right and wrong and unite minds towards the future. Certainlt topical, what with the sub-themes including sustainability, mobility and opportunity.

With the Expo covering 4.3 km of space at Dubai South, near Al Maktoum International Airport, there will be plenty to see and take in. But what to do away from Dubai Expo 2021? Plenty is the answer. We look at the top places to visit during your stay.

Burj Khalifa

View from the Burj Khalifa in Dubai

Where to start on your Dubai adventure? Well, how about heading 125 floors up for the best view in town? Oh, and the highest viewing platform in the world! The Burj Khalifa, near the Dubai Mall (that’s your shopping sorted!), offers stunning views across the entire city. See if you can pick out the Dubai Expo 2021 venue, the Burj Al Arab, and your hotel. And make sure to watch the fountain show outside the Mall from above. It’s a unique experience and is well worth getting tickets in advance that also allows for fast-track entry as it can get busy.

Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour

Once you’ re back on terrafirma, taking a Dubai hop-on hop-off bus tour is great for exploring the whole of the city. All at your own pace. There’s the chance to head to the old city to wander through the Souks. The Gold and Spice Souks are among the favourites. The Dubai Creek to catch those Dhow cruises and The Dubai Mall for the Burj Khalifa, and shopping. Or you can head in the other direction towards the marina and the beaches and theme parks. It’s the way to ensure you get to see all of Dubai, and especially useful if you are on a limited schedule.

Dhow Cruise

Time to slow things down after heading up high and touring around town. A Dhow Cruise is taking your sightseeing to a different place. Out to sea, in fact, and with options for dinner and watching the setting sun. It’s a great way to see how this city comes alive once the sun has set. And among all the modern buildings and technology these traditional boats let you experience the past, in the now!

Theme and Water Parks

To say it can get hot in Dubai, even in the winter months, is an understatement. So where better to cool-off or get some thrills in before flying home than at one of the top theme or water parks. There’s Wild Wadi Waterpark near the Burj Al Arab, and Aquaventure at the famous Atlantis, The Palm. Wild times for all at these top attractions.

For those with a little more time on their hands, you can always head to Ferrari World near Abu Dhabi and YAS Waterworld. Plenty of choices, plenty of thrills and a whole load of screaming to be had!

Desert Safari

Finally, if being thrown around in a 4×4 jeep sounds like fun, well, a Desert safari is where you’ll get to do just that. Adrenaline fuelled fun as you experience the sweeping sand dunes, followed by camel rides, sandboarding, and a BBQ buffet dinner. Not forgetting a belly dance show! It’ll make the perfect escape from the Expo.

There’s no doubt that Dubai Expo 2021 will be a fascinating and important event. A chance for the world to come together, celebrate and look forward. Adding in tours and day trips to your time will ensure you have a trip you’ll never forget. Explore the Expo, explore Dubai. Oh, and enjoy.
