Explore a different side of Venice influenced by the Middle and Far East with this Venice walking tour.
Walk past a traditional market in Middle Eastern souk style, see the site thought to be Marco Polo’s home and visit the Jewish Quarter. Throughout the tour, you will see how the architecture represents the different cultures that co-exist in Venice.
You will also visit a historical coffee roasting house and enjoy a refreshing cup of coffee blended in traditional ways.
An English and French speaking guide will accompany you at all times and share notes and anecdotes about different culture and traditions.
You will meet your guide at the Campo San Bartolomeo in front of the Goldoni statue, next to Rialto Bridge. A traditional market is held in this area, in Middle Eastern souk style for centuries.
Next, you will head to Campiello del Milion where you will visit the site that is said to be the home of the famous Venetian merchant and traveler Marco Polo. Continue walking towards the district of Cannaregio as you see the Church of the Abbey of Misericordia and the Madonna dell’Orto on the way. The Cannaregio district brings together the Oriental culture of Venice and Tintoretti’s renaissance ideas since the famous artist had his studio here.
Your guide will then walk you through Palazzo del Cammello which was established by three brother merchants who came to Venice from Morea for trade. See the statues of the brothers, few Byzantine reliefs and a fountain built in Arabic style.
Moving forward, you will reach the Jewish Quarter of Venice which came up in 1516 when Jews were forced to live in these colonies, as they were feared to dominate the business sector. It is still an active centre for the Jewish community, and the surrounding alleyways, bridges and canals have maintained their unique identity through the ages.
As your tour nears its ending, you will visit a historic Coffee Roasting House where the aroma of the traditional coffee blends will mesmerise you. Sip a cup of coffee prepared in the house before you end the tour at the Guglie Bridge in Cannaregio.
