St. Mark's Square
Reach the meeting point at the scheduled time for the start of the tour. The tour starts from St. Mark’s Square from where you will board a motorboat and set off across the scenic Venetian Lagoon. Your first stop, the island of Murano, is actually several small isles dissected by a wide canal. See the antique art of making glass and lampworking at Murano, famous for its glassmaking since the thirteenth century when the Venetian Republic ordered all glassmakers to leave the mainland because of fear of fire. The next stop will be the island of Burano, known for its lacework and brightly coloured homes. Learn the history and interesting stories about Burano from your knowledgeable guide who will also tell you about Leonardo da Vinci’s visit to the island. Dating back to the 16th century, Burano has much to offer. See high quality lacework on display, explore its local shops and displays and admire Burano’s vibrant settlements. The last stop of the tour is Torcello, a quiet and sparsely populated island. Considered the oldest continuously populated region of Venice, Torcello once held the largest population of the Republic of Venice. Explore the relics of its bygone glory including the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in 639 and still containing stunning mosaics to this day. After touring the 3 islands, re-board the motor launch to cross the lagoon back to Venice. The tour ends at the designated ending point.
