La Serenissima (Her Serene Highness), as Venice is called, is not just about pretty houses and romantic gondola rides. Venetian cuisine is equally divine and this Food Hopping Tour in Venice will take you on  a stroll across campi (squares) and corti (courtyards) to savour typical cicchetti (nibbles) as well as other delicacies at exceptional places.

Crossing a maze of alleyways and canals, travelling like a true local, the tour begins with a sparkling drink in a romantic courtyard and heads to a quaint ‘bàcari’ - a local bar - where padrone Andrea proudly presents his very own cicchetti speciality. We will then embark on a lovely gondola ride across the iconic Canale Grande (the Grand Canal) to visit Aldo and Piero’s charming deli. One of the last of traditional salumerie in the city, this family-run retail outlet will regale you with its delicious Veneto ‘formaggi’ for a cheese tasting. Another stop will take you to the heart of local life where you can take a hearty bite into a multi-layered tramezzino, dainty little Italian sandwiches. A little later on the same track, the impressive architecture of a historic 500-year-old palazzo will instantly remind you of the snack you just enjoyed as you witness how the colonnades rise up over three storeys like sandwich layers around the roofed inner courtyard and conceal an unexpectedly modern establishment behind historical walls.

Next up is another dose of history as you head to a quaint restaurant, dating back to 1890, where the Venezia Football Club was founded. You will be regaled with a royal treatment as you are served the same exclusive meal that had been served to the Doge of Venice every single year on the same day, for centuries. These experiences are only a few of the transcendental ones you can relish on this tour, but that’s not all! From sampling a traditional ‘shadow’ served with Venetian cicchetti to stimulating your senses with local venetian wines, dunking biscuits in ‘not-so-holy’ wine, indulging in a dessert called ‘pick me up’, drinking espresso at the same place as Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt once did, and so much more - this is the real Venice that you just cannot miss out on!
