  • Overview

Keep your visit to St Mark’s Basilica in the end of your sightseeing list as we give you privileged after-hours access to the monument when the basilica doors are closed for the general public.

You will discover the interiors without the crowd and marvel at the unobstructed, and up-close views of those famous glass-and-gold mosaics shining in the evening light. Embrace the peace and tranquility within the church, formerly the private chapel of the Doge of Venice, in the restricted company of fellow visitors within your small group, the basilica’s custodian and your guide. Prepare to be awed as your guide enthusiastically describes the elaborate work and the history behind the intricate beautification.

Walk further to visit the Pala d’Oro and witness one of Italy’s most famous examples of Byzantine enamel, decorated in gold and with over 1900 precious gems. The custodian will also open the crypt which is said to hold the bones of St. Mark himself.

Extra measures may also restrict the size of bags that can be brought inside. To avoid disruptions or possible denied entry, we strongly suggest that you avoid bringing large purses, bags or backpacks on your tour. St. Mark’s Basilica specifically prohibits large bags, umbrellas and tripods. These items must be checked into the luggage storage area off-site, so you may miss a portion of the tour to do so.

Since we would visit a place of worship, wearing shirts with sleeves and avoiding shorts, vest tops and open toe sandals would be best.

Unfortunately, the tour is not suitable for those with mobility problems.

Photography is prohibited in St. Mark’s Basilica.

You will be a part of a small group of maximum 25 people that allows for more interaction with your guide and group members. Nobody wants a crowd, you know!

Gratuities to guides and/or drivers providing excellent service are appreciated.
