Leaving the spires of Salzburg, travel through fairytale scenery along the King's Lake River to the Obersalzberg – famous for Hitler's alpine retreat, the “Eagle's Nest”.
Ascend the dizzying Obersalzberg peak by special bus and World War II elevator. Marvel at the breathtakingly beautiful views and the engineering genius required to construct a building on this craggy peak.
After ascending the heights, the next part of the tour plunges into the bowels of the earth on a fascinating visit to the historic salt mines of Obersalzberg. Dressed in proper miners’ overalls, you’ll drop 100 feet into the ground on a long slide. Travel on a little train to different parts of the mine and enjoy the incredible experience of sailing on a salt lake within the caverns.
You will also have a chance to visit the charming Bavarian village of Berchtesgaden before returning to Salzburg.
The super-value Eagle’s Nest and Salt Mines Combo Tour from Salzburg gives you a thrilling day out in the Bavarian mountains. At the start of the day, you will be picked up from designated meeting points.
Travelling in a comfortable coach or mini-van you will head out of Salzburg. After passing Untersberg Mountain, a place full of legend and myth, you will enter Germany by the old border crossing. Travel through a picturesque valley and past scenic farmhouses to reach the foot of the Obersalzberg. Obersalzber is a place of great historic significance, being the home and headquarters of Adolf Hitler in World War II.
Continuing up the mountain to the bus terminal, you change to special coaches equipped to take you up the rest of the ascent to the brass elevator that transports you to the “Eagle’s Nest” perched on top of the mountain.
The aptly named Eagle’s Nest was built as a teahouse for Adolf Hitler’s 50th birthday. The construction was a considerable feat of engineering owing to its mountain-top location. A restaurant now stands on the site.
From Eagle’s Nest, you have magnificent views of the towering snow-capped peaks of the Bavarian Alps and the surrounding countryside.
After descending the mountain, the next part of your adventure begins. The Obersalzberg area has for centuries been famous for its salt deposits.
Donning traditional miner’s clothes, you enter the 450-year old mines by train to hear fascinating tales and facts about this underground world. You will descend safely into the grottos on slides previously used by generations of miners.
Your tour includes a raft ride on a salt lake, a miniature train ride and a film showing the origin of the salt deposits.
Your next destination is the King’s Lake (Königssee), nestled among the steep and imposing mountains of the Bavarian Alps. After viewing the lake, you visit the picturesque Bavarian village of Berchtesgaden for a brief stop before returning to Salzburg.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at Mirabellplatz Bus-Station.

Fantastic tour - beautiful destinations - not to be missed....
