The walking tour of the city of Rome gives an insight into the history and culture of Italy’s regal past.
Meet your guide at 8:45am, by the newspaper kiosk on the right as you exit Colosseum underground station. You will travel on foot for this small group tour.
Your first stop is the evocative ruins of the Roman Forum, also known as the most celebrated meeting place in the world. The Roman Forum was the site of triumphal processions and gladiatorial matches for centuries. As you walk around the remains of the imposing ancient buildings, your guide will enthrall you with anecdotes about the structure of Roman society, their beliefs, and their social and political life.
Visit the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built with a seating capacity of up to 80,000. Relive the days of Ancient Rome and enjoy a thorough tour of the structure as well as learn about the inner workings of the Colosseum. Your expert, English speaking local guide will tell you about the showmanship of the ferocious games played here and how essential it was for the Romans to attend it.
After visiting the Colosseum, you will spend some time on the Palatine Hill, the centre point of the Seven Hills of Rome. Many famous emperors had their palaces built on the Palatine Hill and it was also the site of the famous Temple of Apollo. From this vantage point your guide will discuss other important ancient Roman sites like the Imperial Palace and Circus Maximus. Look down at the Ancient Forum from the hill and gain an idea about its original design.
The tour will end on the Palatine Hill at around 12noon, after which you are free to explore on your own.
