Vicolo del Puttarello, 25 (Trevi Fountain area)
Same as the start point
While we all know about the famous Trevi Fountain, a lesser known attraction is the Vicus Caprarius—which was only excavated between 1999 and 2001. Throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain before venturing underground to explore the remains of a Roman villa, an ancient cistern, and exhibits of unearthed artifacts.
Explore the subterranean remains by venturing underground and visiting an archaeological site dating back to the empire. Nine meters beneath the streets, extending from Via San Vincenzo to Vicolo Puttarello, you'll discover ruins that date all the way back to ancient Rome.
The archaeological area of Vicus Caprarius, is also known as the ‘City of Water’ due to the presence of the element around the area and the site. The water that flows from the Trevi fountain and the water which filters through the ancient masonry of the Archaeological area, continue to supply the pipes in lead and the pools of a luxurious residence.
Observe the archaeological evidence of the great events that characterized the city’s history, from the realization of Aqua Virgo to the fire of Nero, from the sack of Alarico to the siege of the Goths.
