Enjoy this fantastic private tour of the Vatican City that takes you to places beyond any other tours. Starting in the early morning with a visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel - before it opens doors to the public – on this tour you’ll enjoy personal time at the magnificent sites. Take in the immense collection of artworks on display and the intricate frescoes and detailing on the walls of the museum, with the help of an audio guide providing further information and context.
Stroll through the Vatican Gardens and walk the footsteps of the Pope as you board a special train from the Pope’s private railway station and arrive at Castel Gandolfo in the Roman countryside. Here, you will also enjoy exclusive access to the Pope’s farmhouse and sample an organic snack, only available to the local folks at the Vatican City!
Your Vatican tour begins at 7:45am in front of the Aldo ai Musei Café, where you will meet your tour assistant. The assistant will take you to the Vatican Museums - just a short walk away – before the regular opening time. Arriving early means the site is open only to a select few, and offers a significantly less-crowded experience to that during public visiting hours.
With the help of an audio guide, see one of the world’s largest art collections spanning from Roman, Etruscan and Egyptian antiquities to contemporary art. Visit the Raphael Rooms, ancient sculpture galleries and the stunning Hellenistic ‘Laocoon’.
Visit the Sistine Chapel and be stupefied by the luminous paintings on the ceiling and behind the altar painted by Michelangelo. Every corner of the chapel is decorated; with mosaics on the floor and intricate frescoes on the wall painted by the early Renaissance artists. It is a moving experience to see the enormity of Michelangelo's frescoes as well as that of the famous The Last Judgement painting, which he painted on the back wall of the chapel.
At 10am, enjoy a stroll through the Vatican Gardens before heading to the Pope’s private train station. Admire the Vatican Walls, the Casine and the beautiful fountains, small temples, shrines and the coves dedicated to Madonna. See the magnificence of St. Peter's Basilica and the place of rest and meditation of the reigning Pope Francis.
You will reach the Vatican Train Station at 11am and board a special train. See the Vatican City gates open to allow the train leave for a journey through the Roman countryside to Castel Gandolfo.
At Castel Gandolfo, enjoy free time for lunch (not included in the tour) and then embark on a tour of the city in an eco-transport. See the beautiful gardens, fountains, flowers and scenic Roman ruins scattered around the smallest state in the world.
Next, enjoy an exclusive access to the Roman Amphitheatre and the Pope’s Farmhouse, only available to the guests of this tour. Sample an organic snack produced in the farmhouse and only available to the citizens of the Vatican City.
At the end of the tour, you will get the chance to explore the quaint Roman countryside at Castel Gandolfo on your own. Your tour ends at the Roma San Pietro Station.
