Book your return ferry to the picturesque Island of Videy, just opposite the New Harbour of Reykjavik. This beautiful, unspoilt island makes for a perfect half-day excursion from the city, with village buildings, a small museum, pleasant walks and views. You can also spot the various species of birds that live there, and stop for a coffee break at the café. The main attraction of the island is the peace memorial dedicated to John Lennon, designed by Yoko Ono. The monument is lit up on various dates throughout the year, and it is an evocative experience to see the pillar of light reaching towards the sky.
Make your way to the ticket office at the harbour, signposted Videy Island (Viðey in Icelandic), where you will be pointed to the correct ferry.
During the summer there are daily ferry departures from both New Harbour and Old Harbour. During the winter the ferry runs on Saturdays and Sundays from New Harbour only.
The main ferry, Gestur, can accommodate up to 38 passengers on each ride.

Really enjoyed Videy. Beautiful walks and scenery. So peaceful. Next time we go will be later in the year to see the Imagine Peace Tower lit up. Still enjoyable in the summer...J Gibbins
