  • Overview & Itinerary

The Icelandic New Year's Eve is by many considered the most breathtaking New Year's celebration in the world. Thousands of people attend community bonfires scattered throughout the different neighborhoods in Reykajvík. If you’re lucky, you may even chance to see the Aurora Borealis.

Iceland’s culture draws from folklore, with many interesting stories that will spark your imagination. Basking in the light of a bonfire, you may very well hear a tale or two of ancient lore. Be prepared to see the night sky light up with an intensity you’ve never experienced before. Hundreds of dwellings light crackers at midnight to bring in the New Year in a colorful display you won’t forget.

You will be picked up at your hotel in Reykjavik at 8:00pm in a climate-controlled bus and taken for a New Year’s Eve in Iceland tour. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.

It is an Icelandic tradition dating back to the Middle Ages to enjoy one of the many bonfires scattered throughout the city on New Year’s Eve. In the frosty tundra climate, you’ll find warmth before a crackling bonfire and enjoy the hospitality that Iceland is known for.

Before midnight strikes, you’ll be taken to a desirable viewpoint to watch the fireworks and toast the new year over a glass of sparkling wine. Bonfires and the bright light of crackers will illuminate the snow covered ground in the most festive of celebrations.

We will stop at a restaurant for a light refreshment between the Bonfire and the Firework show.

You will be dropped off at your hotel at the end of the tour.
