Soak in the tranquil beauty of the Icelandic countryside from the back of an Icelandic horse, followed by a visit to the top natural attractions on the Golden Circle, a trio of unique attractions: Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir Geothermal area - all awe-inspiring sites and top attractions of Iceland.
What's the plan:
You will be picked up by bus from your Reykjavik hotel to kick off this Viking Horse Ride and Golden Circle Tour. You will be accompanied for the day by an English-speaking tour guide.
Drive to the outskirts of the capital and mount a beautiful Icelandic horse. Horse riding takes place at Laxnes horsefarm (at Íshestar if Laxnes is fully booked),
The Icelandic horse is a breed that has remained virtually unchanged since the Vikings brought it to the country in the 9th century. These strong, supple, and sure-footed horses move with the speed and effortlessness of the wind.
After an exhilarating one-hour ride, take a lunch break (payable direct) before embarking on the Golden Circle portion of the tour.
Set off by bus for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Þingvellir National Park. It was here that the country’s first parliament was founded in 930 AD, making it the oldest known Parliament in the world. It is also a remarkable tectonic and volcanic environment where continental drift has engraved the landscape with cracks, faults, and fissures.
Drive to the world-renowned geothermal area around Geysir hot spring, where a column of water thrusts upward to a height of 180 feet. Only a few feet away is the Stokkur Geyser, which hurls boiling water toward the sky every 5-10 minutes.
Continue to Gullfoss waterfall, where the wide Hvita River plunges furiously over a natural staircase of stones. When one first approaches the falls, the crevice is obscured from view, giving the appearance of a raging river that simply vanishes into the earth.
On your way back to Reykjavik, pass by the village of Hveragerði, where geothermal energy has been harnessed to create unique greenhouse cultivation.
Travel over a scenic mountain heath back to Reyjavik, where you will be returned to your hotel.
