Itinerary

  • Day 1: The Magic of Snæfellsjokull National Park: Seals on a Black Beach, Caving and the wonders of Nature

    Drive along the west coast through the town of Borgarnes all the way to the beach in Ytri Tunga which is a well-known seal colony. Behold the friendly seals that climb up on the rocks near the sandy beach! Later enjoy a walk along the cliffs of the fishing hamlet Arnarstapi and then Hellnar where the view to the sea is breathtaking.

    Discover incredible rock formations in Djúpalónssandur, a paradise for geology enthusiasts. Hike to one of the most impressive formations called Lóndrangar, which are a pair of rock pinnacles made of basalt approximately 70 m high.

    Begin your journey towards the Center of the Earth! Go caving in the Vatnshellir lava cave where you can see the tumult of the volcanic landscape up close. You will also stop in Saxhóll which is an old 100 m high volcanic crater and enjoy one of the most spectacular view in the area from the top of the crater. From the magical Snæfellsnesjökull glacier to the mighty Atlantic Ocean, the scenery is simply amazing.

    Finish with a drive through three small fishing villages on the way to atmospheric village of Stykkisholmur, scene of the famous movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”. Spend the night in the unique Hotel Fransiskus, a beautiful hotel located in a former monastery.

    Day 2: Mountains, Culture, Waterfalls and Hot springs

    Start your day on a high with a visit to the majestic Kirkjufell mountain, which is one of the most popular photo stops in Iceland. Visit the Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum, where you can taste some traditional Icelandic shark with a local schnapps.

    Driving across the Snæfellsnes peninsuela, your next stop is at Gerðuberg, a big wall of huge Basalt columns. The cliff is 500 m long and 12 to 14 meters high, one of the highest in Iceland. Cover stunning waterfalls such as Hraunfossar which drops 900m and Barnafoss. Finally, tread carefully at Deildartunguhver, the highest-flow hot spring in Europe, providing 180 liters per second of 100C hot water!

    The last leg of the tour takes you to Krauma natural geothermal baths & Spa, located next to Deildartunguhver. This brand new beautiful Spa offers five relaxing geothermal baths, a cold tub, two steam baths and more, all in a very natural environment. After this, you set off back to Reykjavik arriving there in time to enjoy the rest of your night while reflecting on the beauty of the Icelandic nature.

The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details. They’re a nice bunch, and will happily answer any logistical questions you may have. Please give them a call at least 24 hours before your organised activity to reconfirm.

This tour typically returns to Reykjavik on Day 2 around 6:30pm.

If you are a single traveler then a Single Room Supplement of 7.000 ISK is mandatory.Please call the support team and pay for your upgrade.

Only small carry on luggage such as backpacks are possible. Please check with your hotel if they can store your luggage during the tour if you are staying again at the same hotel after the tour. Otherwise you can use luggage lockers that are located in the center Reykjavík. We can also offer you to store your luggage for free at NiceTravel office, located in Fiskislóð 45, Space M. To avoid any delays on departure luggage must be in storage before pick-up time.

Additional 1500 ISK needs to be paid separately for renting hiking shoes directly to our local partner.

We suggest that you bring your warm, wind and waterproof clothes, hiking shoes, swim wear and camera.

Scheduled stops are provided so that you can buy lunch and dinner during the tour.
