Experience the gorgeous city of Pisa, a true historical gem in Tuscany, in this comprehensive guided tour. Covering the Piazza dei Miracoli, Piazza dei Cavalieri, the San Sisto Church, the Piazza Dante Alighieri, Palazzo della Sapienza, and more, it’s the perfect way to soak up the exquisite beauty and architecture the city is doused in.
Our first stop for the day is the stunning Piazza dei Miracoli or the Square of Miracles, a true model of Pisan Romanesque architecture. Comprising of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Pisa Baptistery of St. John and Campo Santo Monumentale. The Square is also home to the incredible Leaning Tower of Pisa, which acts as the bell tower for the Cathedral, and has been integral to religious life ever since the reign of Etruscans. Take a stroll around the verdant gardens as you savour the marvellous aesthetics and discover intriguing anecdotes through our expert guide. You can also upgrade your tour to include a ticket to the Tower which lets you climb its 294 stairs, right up to the top.
We will then head through the picturesque Old Town where our first stop would be the Church of San Sisto, dating back to the 2nd century. Marvel at the eye-catching stone structure, complete with pilaster columns and home to a copy of Madonna and Child. Moving on, we will explore the Piazza dei Cavalieri or the Knight’s Square, the second most important square in the city. Formerly acting as the political centre of Pisa during medieval time, it is currently synonymous with the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa which is an institution for higher education. Proceeding to the Piazza Dante Alighieri, you can see the Palazzo della Sapienza - a stunning Renaissance building which houses the Law Department of the University of Pisa, one of the oldest universities in Italy.
Moving on, we will ramble along the panoramic Lungarni, the set of streets lining the River Arno, to visit Plaza Garibaldi where you will be able to check out the statue of the Italian general, Giuseppe Garibaldi. Our final activity is a charming walk through one of the most popular streets in Pisa, the Borgo Stretto, before we head back to the “meadow of miracles” and finishing a tour that is mesmerising to say the least!
