Overview

Michelangelo is probably the most renowned artist of the renaissance movement. Fittingly Florence, where the movement started, is home to many of his finest works. This tour reveals the genius of Michelangelo by tracing his time in Florence and his Renaissance works during this period.

Get an insight into the life and times of the great Renaissance artist, his temperamental personality and the rivalries that existed between Michelangelo and other great artists of the Renaissance movement. Your private guide will offer you an in depth explanation of the great works by Michelangelo that you will see on this tour.

Itinerary

This is a private tour and the guide will meet you at your hotel for a tour of Florence with a focus on the life and works of Michelangelo. You will be studying and admiring the masterpieces of Michelangelo, the most renowned painter, architect and sculptor of the Italian Renaissance.

Walk to the Bargello sculpture museum, where your private guide will walk you around the works by the great master. See the statue of Bacchus, created when Michelangelo was only 21 years old and the beautiful marble Madonna and Child. Follow the career of Michelangelo and learn about his life and works as you are introduced to some of his greatest works.

Following the Bargello, continue on foot to the Accademia gallery. After enjoying an in-depth discussion of David, your guide will take you to admire "Michelangelo’s Slaves". A series of breathtaking sculptures commissioned by Pope Julius II for his own personal tomb in Rome.

The tour finishes inside the Accademia Gallery and you are free to stay and browse the works at your leisure.
