Overview

Enter an art museum that will transport you to the ancient times. Located in Berlin’s famous Museum Island, the Altes Museum houses a massive collection of ancient art and artefacts.

See a fascinating range of art of the Etruscans, the skull and mastery of the Greek potters and a statue of the ancient world’s most famous lovers, Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. Like its artworks, the building in which Altes Museum is housed was completed in 1830 and is one of the examples of Neoclassical architecture in the whole of Germany.

Browse its impressive collection from one room to another created from a vast array of materials such as bronze, terracotta, glass, ivory and jewellery made from precious metals and stones. You will also come across a coin cabinet with over 1,400 coins from the 7th century BCE to the 3rd century CE.
