  • Overview & Itinerary

Spend a day learning about the life of Thomas Jefferson amidst some of America's most stirring scenery. An architect, horticulturalist, statesman, author, and inventor, Jefferson perfectly personifies the American spirit of innovation; his home in Virginia exemplifies much of what is most beautiful about the country.

Behold one of Jefferson's proudest achievements, the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, the only university in the United States to be chosen as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Have lunch at an 18th century tavern that serves up all the best in finger-licking Southern fare. Continue to Jefferson's residence, Monticello, which sits augustly atop a summit in the Southwest Mountains.

Your English-speaking driver and guide for the day will pick you up in your air-conditioned coach at Union Station in Washington, DC.

Relax on the scenic two-and-a-half hour drive to Charlottesville, view the panoramic scenery en route to Virginia, as miles of dense forest give way to rolling pastures.

You will see The Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center and Smith Education Center, the new gateway to Monticello, will offer visitors greatly enhanced services and amenities while engaging them in Thomas Jefferson's life, times, and lasting legacies through a new introductory film, four innovative exhibitions, and a hands-on discovery room.

Enjoy lunch at the historic Michie Tavern(payable direct). Ascend to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's mountain-top estate. Walk along the grounds where America's third President once presided over an Eden of fruit trees and vegetable gardens, and tour the rooms where he pursued his intellectual and political ambitions.
