Overview

Party in Venice, incognito. The Carnival is here with all its allure and this is a chance to be a part of the 18th-century, pre-Lent celebration with lots of adventure and fun. Participate in the Venice Carnival Treasure Hunt and uncover the city’s hidden treasures.

So, here’s the plan…

You can start the treasure hunt from either St Mark’s Square or Piazzale Roma, where you will be given a map and asked to download the Venice Carnival app that will become your compass guiding you. The map will take you across the city, unexplored corners, and finally back to St Mark’s Square where the hunt ends. You will walk past splendid squares like the Campo Manin, Campo Santo Stefano, and Campo Sant’Anzolo, and then to the ancient Calle degli Assassini. Then you will cross the ponte delle Ostreghe bridge which is a living testament of Venetian fishing traditions. You will also come across old churches including the Church of San Maurizio, home to a great collection of musical instruments. Listen to fascinating tales and anecdotes narrated by the app’s audio guide.

Are you game for the treasure hunt? You will have to take at least three pictures out of the four hidden places highlighted on the map. Mind you, these won’t be easy to find in the narrow alleyways of Venice, pay attention to your compass and the audio-guide and you are good to go. After touring around the city, you will have to show the pictures to the mask-maker who will give you two Venetian masks – one decorated in traditional style and the other one in white. Put on the traditional mask and paint the other one.

Good Luck and have great fun!
