The Doge’s Palace, a marvelous feat of Gothic architecture and Venice’s most iconic landmarks, is on everyone’s must-do list when travelling to Venice. So you can totally imagine the massive crowd gathering to see the interiors. There’s loads to see inside and make sense of it. After all, it was once the centre of Venetian government and has had several secrets hidden. To reveal all that and much more, join a private guide who will help you cut the crowd, give you fascinating secrets and show you the best parts.
Here’s the plan…
After meeting your guide at the meeting point, enter Doge’s Palace and admire this Byzantine-style palace and the stunning façade as a whole work of art. Go back in time as your guide takes you to the priceless treasures inside the palace. You will see the finely decorated rooms, the Giant Staircase, Doge’s rooms, the Hall of the Great Council, the Armoury and unique paintings by artists like Titian, Tintoretto, Tiepolo and Veronese. Be amazed by the beautifully carved capitals of the individual columns and the sculptures overlooking the Grand Canal and the Piazzetta.
Hear about the different roles played by the Doge and his counsellors, be entertained by your informative guide and learn about the history of the Venetian legends as you walk through the eerie, narrow passageways towards the prison cells whilst learning about the prisoners and of course, Casanova, perhaps Venice’s most famous and intriguing escape.
After visiting the Doge’s Palace, your tour also gives you a free way to visit the museums around St Mark’s Square like Museo Correr, Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Monumental Rooms of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana.
