The Hunter Valley is just 2 hours drive North of Sydney but a million miles away from the stress of city living. The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest and one of its greatest wine areas, though it produces only a tiny proportion of the countries wines - about 2 per cent. First established more than 150 years ago, it is home to some 80 wineries ranging from famous labels to very small 'boutique' winemakers. The Hunter Valley is renowned for its full-bodied white wines, 'medium weight reds' and some excellent ports.
On this Hunter Valley tour you will trace the winemaking process from vine to bottle as you tour the vineyards and winery with the scent of crushed grapes in the air. A wine appreciation session will guide you through the textures and tasting of different wines.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Sydney and travel by coach on this Hunter Valley tour.
Depart Sydney via the Harbour Bridge and travel through the spectacular Hawkesbury district.
The first stop is at Hope Estate to experience a guided tour of the winery and learn about the winemaking process whilst sampling some award winning wines. You will also have some time to enjoy a stroll through the Hunter Valley Gardens. From October 2016 onward, you will visit Leogate Estate instead of Hope Estate.
Next visit is of Hunter Resort for a presentation on how the winery operates. You will learn about styles, techniques and how to blend your own wine. Lunch will be of tasting platters offered during your wine tasting sessions.
As you travel back to Sydney you will pass through lush rolling hills with small wineries dotted across the landscape.
There may be an opportunity for further tastings at the Hunter Valley Cellars. After departing Hunter Valley Garden Village head back to Sydney via Freeman's Waterhole and the Expressway.
The tour ends at your hotel.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming the departure details.
