Overview

Follow a local guide in Montepulciano, then travel to the Renaissance Church of St. Biagio. Lunch is served using all locally sourced products at a vineyard producing one of the most important wines in Italy, Brunello di Montalcino. Finish the day with a leisurely visit to the town of Pienza, famous for its Pecorino cheese and spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside.

With a tour assistant throughout the day, a local guide in Montepulciano, a delicious lunch and an air-conditioned coach, this is an experience in Tuscany that will last a lifetime.

You’ll leave Rome aboard a comfortable air-conditioned coach. As you drive through the Tuscan hills, your tour leader will fill you in on the rich culture which originated in the pre-Roman Etruscan civilization. Our first stop is the hilltop town of Montepulciano, for a walking tour with a local guide. You’ll discover narrow streets, theatrical clock towers and ancient wine cellars in this car-free town.

Immerse yourself in the architecture of St. Biagio's Church, the result of an exceptional synthesis between the artistic language of the Renaissance and the beauty of the Tuscan landscape, due to its peculiar location in the midst of a breath-taking landscape overlooking the Tuscan hills. The church, an example of a Renaissance Greek cross central plan, was used for the original design by Bramante and Michelangelo for St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

You’ll be eager to sit down with your group surrounded by vineyards to a three-course Tuscan feast and taste the world-famous Brunello di Montalcino wine. The food and wine are all produced locally, so we guarantee you’ll taste nothing fresher. While all the regions in Italy compete over food, Tuscany is a byword for local produce and its wine is the best in the world.

Food and wine is not all it is known for.

Once you set foot in Pienza, you’ll be visiting one of the first towns in the world to receive a beauty makeover. Another Italian World Heritage Site, it was rebuilt by Pope Pius II in the Renaissance to showcase the idea of urban perfection. Of course, you’ll also discover food here as it is famous for its Pecorino cheese.

You have just the right amount of time to explore Pienza and shop for local food and wines, take photographs and eat gelato.

By the time you return to Rome, you’ll have experienced the sights and tastes of a unique historical region that many dream of when they first consider a visit to Italy.
