Join us for a thrilling night-time adventure to find one of Mother Nature’s greatest showstoppers – the magical phenomenon known as the Northern Lights.
Far from the glow of the city, we will hunt for the magnificent but elusive auroras, best seen on cold, clear nights in winter. If conditions are right, we may be lucky enough to witness the awesome spectacle of the Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the sky in vivid colours and dramatic patterns.
Unfortunately, the Northern Lights are as unpredictable as they are stunning. Our local activity operator has years of experience in tracking the Northern Lights and will carefully research conditions on the day of the tour to give you the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights. However, if you do not see it, you will be offered another Northern Lights tour free of charge. Therefore you are recommended to book this for a night early during your stay in Iceland.

For your exciting Northern Lights Tour, you will be picked up from your hotel or guest-house in Reykjavik 30 minutes before start time and will set off in search of one of the world's greatest natural wonders.
The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are a spectacular natural phenomenon. The waves of brilliantly coloured light dancing across the Arctic sky have been astounding visitors for decades. The lights originate from the sun, where large explosions and electronic storms throw flares and solar particles deep into space. These clouds of solar particles are caught by the Earth’s magnetic field at the south and north poles. The particles collide with the gases of Earth’s atmosphere and cause them to glow – just like gas in a fluorescent tube. The colors formed depend on the type of gas – oxygen glows red or green while nitrogen produces blue or purple lights.
The Northern Lights are seen in winter, usually on clear crisp nights in places far away from the city lights.
Before starting this tour, the activity operator always checks the weather forecast around the south western part of Iceland. From experience, they decide where each journey will lead, their decisions based on the giving travellers best possible opportunity to see the Northern Lights.
The tour will take you to all the places where these Northern Lights are most likely to be seen. However, the activity operator cannot guarantee that you will witness the spectacle. If the Lights are not seen you will be offered a second tour free of charge.
At the end of the excursion you will be dropped back at your accommodation.
Voucher information: No need to print! You can show your voucher on your smartphone or other device.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour to confirm the pick-up details. Pick-up from hotels and guesthouses is 30 minutes before start time.
Hotel dropoff may not be directly in front of the hotel, depending on the route and traffic restrictions.
The Northern Lights are visible from August through to April but can only be seen on a clear night. Therefore, the tour company reserves the right to cancel this tour if the evening sky is heavily clouded or weather conditions are not favourable. A decision is made daily latest at 5:00 pm whether the tour will take place or not, and emails are sent out to inform you.
The tour company cannot guarantee sightings of the Northern Lights even if the tour operates. If the tour runs and the Lights are not seen the company will offer customers a second Northern Lights tour free of charge.
The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.
