It’s Iceland’s only road that runs around the country, connecting the cities and towns, and what’s more, all the special places are on route. So pack for a few days away and be ready to explore.
Day 1: The South Coast
You are going South on Day 1, heading for some of the islands most beautiful landscapes. From lagoons to huge mountains and volcanoes. Oh, and not forgetting the stunning waterfalls, including the secret waterfall Glijurabui. There’s even the black beach to walk on before heading to the accommodation. Such contrasts make for a special day, which is only the introduction.
Day 2: Heading East
You visit the Jokulsarlon Glacier lagoon first. Then, see floating icebergs, which make for a dazzling sight against the black sandy beach. You might even see a seal swimming in the cold waters. So keep your eyes peeled.
Then you head to the mountain Vestrahorn and take in the dramatic east coast. Harbours and small fishing villages await, along with sweeping views of the mountains. There are optional activities on this day. A Blue Ice Cave visit an amphibian Boat tour at Jökulsárlón, you’ll float among the icebergs on this one or the Vök Geothermal Floating Pools. Plenty to pick from there.
Day 3: Lake Myvatn and Waterfalls
Into Day 3, and you’re heading to what many think is the most beautiful part of Iceland. Lake Myvatn is a hidden treasure because of its location, and the landscape created some 2300 years ago. Hot springs and caves with steaming blue waters. Unique birdlife and fauna. It’s a staggering place, full of beauty. The magnificent Dettifoss is Europe’s most powerful waterfall and one of the day’s highlights. (Note: Waterfalls only accessible during the summer). You even get to go to the waterfall of Gods, Godafoss.
Day 4: North Iceland
Your last day of the tour starts from the Northern capital Akureyri. You’ll find modern and old architecture here, that’ll be wooden houses, all close to the harbour. The day continues by going to the north coastline towards Dalvik, a small fishing village. Even the drive helps you to realise how different each region is.
See it all and get a real sense of Iceland and its dramatic flora and fauna. It’s the ultimate experience.
