Pompeii is one of Italy’s most precious archeological sites and is incredibly well preserved. The ancient city of Pompeii was suddenly wiped off the map in 79 A.D. ; buried under 6 meters of volcanic ash. Although most of the 20,000 inhabitants didn’t survive, much of their city did. This UNESCO World Heritage site has been carefully excavated to reveal its former glory. There are even colored frescos depicting the people who once lived there. Paved, streets, murals, and well preserved structures all give a glimpse back into an era long gone.
Also on this tour is Mount Vesuvius, the volcano responsible for covering Pompeii in ashes. Seeing Vesuvius offers a well rounded experience after visiting Pompeii. This volcano is the only active volcano of its kind in Europe. Enjoy the views of Pompeii at the top, and be sure to take some snaps here to remember the day!
