Overview

Walk down the sinister streets of Melbourne that was once home to the city’s most infamous criminals and crooks. Crime ran through the old Fitzroy quarters in the early 1900s and scenes of brutal murders, robberies, cop chase were everyday stories on the streets and alleys.

Here’s the plan…

Your old Fitzroy tour will start from the historic Workers Club where your guide will give you a brief introduction about the locality. Then you will head out to explore the streets and alleys where Melbourne’s most notorious citizen lived and plied their trade.

As a reference point, your guide will give you a booklet with photographs of the people he will tell you about during the course of the tour. You will discover former brothels, gangland murder sites, sly grog shops and the places where criminals such as Squizzy Taylor drank, fought, got hitched and faced trial.

When you walk the narrow alleys, think how it was to survive in old Fitzroy – Melbourne’s home of criminals.

About the Supplier: All the tours of Melbourne Historical Crime Tours are conducted by journalist and local historian Michael Shelford based in Fitzroy. He has a treasure trove of material on horrific crimes and scandals that happened on the streets of Melbourne. The accounts are often spine chilling and make for a thrilling adventure. You have been warned.
