For the Grand Canyon West Rim by Coach tour, you will be picked up from your hotel in Las Vegas in a comfortable, deluxe air-conditioned coach and will be driven to Hoover Dam, crossing the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge from where you will get a glimpse of the dam and Lake Mead.
Commissioned in 1935 by the then United States’ president Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Hoover Dam is one of the world’s tallest dams. Thousands of workers were involved in the construction of the dam, which was mainly built for irrigation in the hottest area of United States. The dam seizes Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the US in terms of volume.
After Hoover Dam, the coach will pass through the habitat of the big horn sheep, Black Canyon, which has played a significant role in the development of the American Southwest, and more than 900 years old Joshua Tree Forest. Be on the lookout for Fortification Hill, built during World War II to protect the Hoover Dam.
Next, the coach will take you to the major attraction of the tour – the west rim of the Grand Canyon. A UNESCO World Heritage site and considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, it was named as an official national park in 1919. It’s an endless expanse of layers of rocks of different colors which recede down to form an indomitable gorge. The sites presented by the different viewpoints of the rim drastically transform from dawn to dusk.
Upon arrival, savor barbecue lunch prepared by the local Hualapai tribe, who will also acquaint you with their history, traditions and culture. After lunch, enjoy a walk along the rim, visiting viewpoints which will give you the most spectacular vision of the gorge and ample photo opportunities.
Before you take the return journey, spend quality time browsing artifacts, curios crafted by the tribal craftsmen. You can pick knick knacks as souvenirs for your loved ones.
