Your unforgettable Rome Segway Night Tour begins when you meet your English-speaking guide at the local tour operator’s office, located in Via di Sant’Eufemia #15. This tour is limited to small groups, so you are guaranteed an intimate and unique experience.
For 2½ hours, you will see Rome at night from the comfort of a Segway. An audio system with headphones will ensure you can hear what your guide is saying. A 30 minute orientation will ensure you are comfortable riding the Segway personal transporter vehicle.
Your tour begins by gliding through the Forum of Traiano (Trajan's Forum), an ancient structure dating from 112 AD. The main entrance to the Forum was originally surmounted by an enormous statue of Emperor Trajan.
From Trajan’s Forum, you’ll proceed to Venice Square (Piazza Venezia). This is the central hub of Rome, with many thoroughfares intersecting.
You’ll next ride to the Temple of Hadrian, dating from the year 145 AD. The temple was built to honor Emperor Hadrian, who ruled from 117 to 138 AD. He’s best known for building Hadrian's Wall, which marked the northern limit of Roman Britain, and rebuilding the Pantheon in Rome.
The Pantheon is your next stop. This temple was commissioned by Marcus Agrippa to honor all the gods of Ancient Rome. It is one of the best-preserved of all Roman buildings and has been in continuous use throughout its history. The Pantheon dome remains the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world.
You then glide to Navona Square which was built on the site of a stadium. This square features important sculptural and architectural creations, such as the Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi) in the center, topped by the Obelisk of Domitian.
You’ll then proceed to the Palazzo Montecitorio, a palace that is now the seat of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. The palace dates from the 17th century and was designed for the nephew of Pope Gregory XV.
At Piazza Colonna, you’ll see the Doric column of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, which is modeled on Trajan's Column. An inscription found nearby indicates that the column was completed by 193 AD.
You’ll proceed to the Spanish Steps, the widest staircase in Europe. This monumental stairway of 135 steps was built from 1723 to 1725. It was built to link the Bourbon Spanish Embassy and the Trinità dei Monti church that was under the patronage of the Bourbon kings of France, both located above, to the Holy See in Palazzo Monaldeschi located below.
To conclude the tour, you’ll go to the Trevi Fountain, the largest Baroque fountain in Rome and one of the most famous fountains in the world. It lies at the junction of three roads and marks the end point of one of the aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome. According to legend, throwing a coin in the fountain will ensure that a visitor returns to Rome.
Trevi Fountain featured in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita, starring Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni, and the 1953 film, Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
