Enjoy a walking tour in the Garden District of New Orleans, which has some fine examples of Greek revival and Italianate architecture. Built to rival the architectural splendor of the French Quarter of the Creoles, the Garden District is lined with elegant mansions, which are surrounded by oaks, palms and lush lawns.

A walking tour in this part of New Orleans is also a great opportunity to see the homes of former Mardi Gras kings and queens and the former residence of the author Anne Rice.

Offering a glimpse into the fascinating history and impressive architecture of New Orleans, this tour is a must do in the ‘Big Easy’.

    The tour departs from the Gray Line “Lighthouse” Ticket Office located at Toulouse Street and the Mississippi River (at the Steamboat Natchez Dock), only 1 block from Jackson Square in the French Quarter.
    Please report at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start time. This is mandatory to allow time for pre-departure briefing.

Itinerary

  • The tour departs from the Gray Line “Lighthouse” Ticket Office located at Toulouse Street and the Mississippi River (at the Steamboat Natchez Dock), only 1 block from Jackson Square in the French Quarter.

    From here you will board a climate-controlled coach and set out on towards the Garden District in New Orleans for a walking tour.

    Visit the "American" section of town that was built to rival the architectural splendor of the Creoles’ French Quarter. Enjoy a walk through New Orleans’ elegant Garden District, once part of the plantation owned by Bienville, the founder of New Orleans. This historic district is known for its marvelous examples of Greek Revival and Italianate architecture.

    See the homes of former Kings and Queens of Mardi Gras that are located here, as well as the home of the premier family of football - the Mannings - where Archie lives and Peyton and Eli grew up.

    View the former residence of celebrated author Anne Rice, the house where Jefferson Davis died in 1889, and Toby’s Corner, the oldest house in the area (built in 1838).

    Visit Lafayette Cemetery, one of the Cities of the Dead, and learn about the unusual above-ground burial system.

    A short stop for refreshments (payable direct) is included on your stroll through this beautiful section of New Orleans.

    At the end of the walk re-board your coach and return to the starting point of the tour in New Orleans.
