Overview
Fish, fruits, meat, sweets and plastic food! Are these four words that bring a smile to your face? Get your tummy rumbling? Well, it gets many Osakans tummies rumbling and their faces smiling. Where do you go to enjoy these desires? The market, but no common market. This is the Kuromon market, where you get an insider’s perspective on culture, the food, the local people and the Osakan way of life. This is a tour of colourful sights and sounds, oh, not forgetting smells. You’ll taste and have a rummage around. Did plastic food get a mention? Yep, you read that right. Plastic food is a unique feature here. Called food samples, a tradition from over 100 years ago. You’ll see plenty on display in restaurant windows. What one? Have no fear, there is a chance to find your perfect plastic sushi dish! It’ll make the perfect souvenir.
About the Supplier: Arigato Japan loves nothing more than giving you sweet memories of Japan through the joy of food. Their tours take you on a culinary journey to explore and taste local and regional specialities. They also like to show you the places that locals cherish, those off-beaten places which offer foodie experiences that only locals know about. Love your markets, the bustle, the smells, that authentic feel? Then this is the tour for you. A look into the life of Kuromon Market, Osaka’s place to discover the secrets and way of life for this city.
With your local guide, you’ll find the best stalls and produce to sample Japan’s delicious food. This was once a fisherman’s market, now grown to be much, much more. This is where the Osakans shop, so you know you’re in the right place. If sampling real food weren’t enough, you'd also get the chance to visit Sennichimae Doguyasuji, Osaka’s ‘Kitchen town’. See the cooking tools and equipment crucial to Osaka’s chefs. From bowls to knives and neon signs! It’s here. Oh, and the famous plastic food! Originating over 100 years ago in Japan, these display samples make for the perfect souvenir (hint, hint!)
This is a walking tour with a whole lot more! Fill-up on the samples and get to know the local culture. Just make sure you don’t try to eat plastic food!
