If you enjoy jazz and dancing you’ll love the Soul Food and Jazz experience. The tour starts from 690 Eighth Avenue (between 43rd and 44th Streets) New York, NY 10036.
At the terminal you will meet your bilingual (English and French speaking) guide and set off in a deluxe AC motor coach. You will tour the fascinating district of Harlem and learn about the neighborhood’s role in jazz history and how the noted jazz musicians of Harlem gave New York its musical edge.
See the site of the original Cotton Club, where Duke Ellington and Lena Horne spent hours wowing crowds from around the world. Drive past the site of the Savoy Ballroom where Benny Goodman and Chick Webb fought it out during their Battle of the Bands and where the Charleston, Lindy Hop and the Big Apple dances were firmly cemented into American culture.
See the world-famous Apollo Theater, where Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald won the popular Amateur Night, which still boasts standing-room-only audiences every Wednesday night. Pass by the Lincoln Theater, where Fats Waller’s virtuosity underscored Vaudeville shows, and Minton's Playhouse, where bebop was born and where Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk started the tradition of jam sessions.
Dine at Sylvia’s famous restaurant and enjoy a traditional meal of BBQ ribs, fried chicken or fish, collard greens, mac and cheese, corn bread, coffee, tea and dessert. (Vegetarian option available on prior request, drinks not included.)
Then dance your socks off at Harlem's best-known bebop spot. Enjoy the easy-going, convivial atmosphere as you mingle freely with the locals and experience the shared essence of Harlem. Your first two cocktails at the club are complimentary!
Your ‘soul food and jazz’ experience lasts for 5 hours. At 12:00 midnight you will board your vehicle and will be driven back to the starting point.
It is essential that you call the activity operator 48 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming your booking and departure details.
You will need to exchange your voucher 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. If you arrive in NYC a day prior it is advisable to collect the voucher in advance.
