"City Tour of Amsterdam" jane gilmurray

  • This sightseeing tour provides the perfect introduction to Amsterdam
  • Included drive outside of the city centre to see a windmill and visit a diamond factory
  • Travel by air conditioned coach accompanied by a local guide

With more than 6,000 houses and buildings, Amsterdam has the largest historical city center in Europe. The city is famous for its canals, lined by elaborately decorated merchants' residences and warehouses, which were built in the 17th century, the Dutch 'Golden Age'. On this tour, you will see many landmarks: the Royal Palace, the National Monument, the ‘Skinny’ bridge, the Albert Cuyp Market and the beautiful houses along the canals. A trip to Amsterdam would be incomplete without visiting a windmill, and this tour will take you to one on the river Amstel.

You will be picked up from 26, Damrak in Amsterdam and travel by coach through the old and new parts of the city. On this city tour you will see:

The Royal Palace: Originally built as the city hall for the magistrates of Amsterdam, it is now used mainly for official state functions.

The National Monument: A tall obelisk built as an homage to the victims of WWII. The two lions that stand beneath are the heraldic symbol of Netherlands.

The Skinny Bridge: A traditional double-leaf, Dutch draw-bridge, also called Magere Brug. It connects the banks of the river Amstel and opens every twenty minutes or so to let boats through.

The Albert Cuyp Market: Considered by many to be the best-known and busiest outdoor market in Europe.

Take a drive along the banks of the canals and the River Amstel where you will see windmills and unique houses. You will also visit a diamond factory.

The tour ends at 26, Damrak.
