Board a canal boat for a traditional cruise through the maze of canals that run through the wonderful city of Amsterdam. You will sail past old warehouses, docks and boatyards dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries serving as reminders of the city’s past as a seaport. From the canal you will have the perfect view of many beautiful churches and distinctive houses which proudly line the riverbanks.
After the cruise you can skip all the lines and go straight in to the Rijksmuseum; a museum dedicated to the arts and history. Rijksmuseum consists of a collection containing over 1 million works of art and historical objects. With an array of works by Dutch masters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer as well as historical objects ranging from the time of Charles V to Queen Beatrix, the current monarch, you will easily spend hours circulating the corridors and halls of the building.
Board your cruise boat at Damrak 26 and explore the Venice of the North with its 90 islands, 1,500 bridges and one hundred kilometres of canals in total. On your cruise you will pass through the seaport of Amsterdam, which used to be the main port of the Dutch East India Company – imagine the colossal trading ships sailing in with cargos of silk, cotton, salt and exotic spices. You will also pass residential areas, with many houses finished during the prosperous Golden Era, to get a feel for the way of life of the Amsterdammers. The cruise will last approximately 1 hour.
After the cruise skip the lines to the Rijksmuseum which houses one of the broadest and most extensive collections in Holland with over 8,000 pieces currently on display to the public. Its goal of linking the individual with art and history makes the Rijksmuseum an astounding cultural and historical experience; it is a definite must-see while in Amsterdam.
The cruise offers audio commentary in English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
