This Great Ocean Road tour is ideal for those who want to enjoy the stunning scenery of what is arguably the most beautiful coast road in the world – but have limited time.
Enjoy a scenic drive, see the majestic 12 Apostles and walk down the famous and dramatic Gibson Steps. Spend some time in the charming villages of the Great Ocean Road, visit Loch Ard Gorge and take a rainforest walk.
You will be picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned minibus and taken for a Great Ocean Road tour from Melbourne. Enjoy panoramic views of the city and Port Phillip Bay as you cross the Westgate Bridge, Australia’s longest bridge. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.
Drive by Victoria’s second largest city, Geelong and make our way towards the Surf Coast. Arrive at Eastern View or the Great Ocean Road Arch. There will be an approx. 10 minutes photo opportunity at the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch. You can also take a short walk on the beach.
At the township of Kennet River, you may take a brief side trip into the sweetly scented eucalyptus forest to locate some of the local koalas in the native habitat! The Koala population is strong and numerous sightings are guaranteed!
Next you will arrive at Apollo Bay for an included restaurant lunch and opportunity to explore this seaside village. You will take another photo stop at Cape Patten on the way to the spectacular Otway Ranges.
At Otway Ranges, stop to enjoy a stroll in the cool temperate rainforest at Maits Rest Rainforest. You will enjoy an approx. 35 minutes’ guided tour of the cool temperate rainforest, surrounded by towering Mountain Ash trees.
Moving forward, your next stop will be the Port Campbell National Park and its iconic array of rock formations. You will see the majestic monoliths of the Twelve Apostles, the breathtaking rock formation which has become a natural icon. Here, you may take an optional helicopter flight (direct payable). Step down to the beach at the Gibson Steps and be dwarfed by these enormous rock stacks.
Next, you will see the Loch Ard Gorge, one of the more dramatic attractions on the Great Ocean Road. Climb the dramatic staircase that leads down to the beach which is the heart of the Shipwreck Coast, where 52 lives were lost and only 2 souls survived the wreck of the Loch Ard in 1878.
Take time to explore more at the gorge and see the famous rock formations of Razorback, the Dumpling Pots and the delightful Island Archway.
On your way back to your hotel in Melbourne, a dinner stop is made before enjoying a stunning view of the illuminated city as we cross the Westgate Bridge again.
