There are two departure points for your California Beaches Tour – Los Angeles. Hotel pick-up is not included so you should make your way to either Starbucks Coffee Shop at Farmers Market Corner of Fairfax, Blvd and 3rd St, at 06.30 am, or to 4 Points Sheraton Culver City Hotel, 5990 Green Valley Circle, Culver City, where you will meet your guide in the lobby of the hotel at 07:00am.
For your day out, you will be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle and accompanied by a guide. Meals are not included in this tour but there will be stops for breakfast and lunch at fast food places along your route.
You will depart up the spectacular California Coast to Santa Barbara, originally home to the Chumash Native Americans and then one of the earliest Spanish settlements in this part of the Americas.
Sometimes known as ‘the American Riviera’, Santa Barbara is a beautiful spot with glorious beaches, majestic mountains, a colorful culture and a Mediterranean climate.
You will visit Mission Santa Barbara , often called the ‘Queen of the Missions’ for its graceful beauty. Founded in 1786, it was the tenth of 21 Franciscan missions in California. It still functions as a church today. You will learn about the important role played by the early missions in the history of California.
As you tour the Mission with your guide, look for clues to the cultural diversity of Santa Barbara in the names and backgrounds of those buried in the cemetery. See further evidence of cultural fusion in the Philippine crucifix and Chinese silk vestments in the museum Chapel, in the Mexican art works, and the Moorish (African) influence in the Mission architecture.
After leaving the Mission, you will visit Santa Barbara’s harbor and amazing sandy beaches and realize why so many movie stars and other rich and famous people have made this city their home.
After spending around 2 hours in Santa Barbara, the tour continues north to Solvang, founded in 1911 by a group of Danish educators. Here you will find bakeries, restaurants, and merchants offering a taste of Denmark in California. The architecture of many buildings follows traditional Danish style. There is a copy of the famous Little Mermaid statue from Copenhagen, as well as a bust of Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. You will have around 1 hour to stroll down the main street and browse in the local shops. This is also your chance to enjoy a spot of lunch (payable direct).
From Solvang, you go on to Hearst Castle, built by the newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst as playground for himself and his guests, many of whom were Hollywood celebrities.
Situated on the top of a hill, this incredible edifice lay at the heart of William Randolph Hearst’s 250,000- acre ranch. Hearst devoted nearly 30 years and about US $10 million to creation of his opulent estate. The Castle architecture is a mix of Italian, Spanish, Moorish and French styles.
Your guide will take you around the Castle buildings. Inside, you will find a phenomenal collection of antiques and priceless treasures including Greek vases dating from 800 BC, rare oriental carpets, and countless works of art.
After about 3 hours at Hearst Castle, you will board your vehicle for the return to Los Angeles. At the end of your tour you can be dropped off at either Starbucks Coffee Shop at Farmers Market or 4 Points Sheraton Culver City Hotel. At the start of the tour please advise your guide which of these you prefer. After you are dropped off, you will need to make your own arrangements to get back to your accommodation.
