When is an art gallery more than just a building with pictures!? The answer, when it’s the Calouste Gulbenkian gallery. With its mix of contemporary Portuguese art and a private collection from the Far East to Islamic Orient, you know you are exploring one of the worlds top private collections. Across the two buildings, this ticket is an art lover treat.
Inside the museum's uber-stylish walls you'll experience thousands of years of art, from antiquity to the present day. Arranged chronologically, start with the Egyptians and Greco-Romans and move through Mesopotamia, the Islamic Orient, Armenia and the Far East. Touchscreen info stations fill you in on the history and context while giving the art room to breathe, so feel free to explore at your own pace.
And when you have had your fill of the stunning works take yourself into the garden of winding pathways and water features. Take it all in and, then you’ll understand this is more than just a building with pictures.
