Overview
Escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and instead immerse yourself on this day tour from Lisbon to the charming rural paradises of Fátima, Obidos, Batalha, Alcobaça & Nazare. Fatima is home to the centre of Catholic faith and world pilgrimage site called Fátima Sanctuary but you’d be surprised to know that the place is first and foremost famous for the 1917 sighting of the Virgin Mary by three farm-hand children. Naturally the place has become a host to Christian pilgrims every year who pay respects to Nossa Senhora de Fatima (Our Lady of Fatima).
Take your time to explore the basilica and the shrine before heading to the Obidos where rests a medieval town preserved in time. Complete with the old patterned maze like streets and historical houses, you’re greeted by Gothic architecture everywhere you turn! Your coach then leads you to the village of Batalha which is home to the UNESCO listed Batalha Monastery. See first-hand why this beautiful structure complete with ornate stained glass windows and Gothic structure is visited by millions every year.
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site is on your itinerary as you head to Alcobaca and visit the Santa Maria d’Alcobaca the largest and most imposing Gothic monastery in all of Portugal! After feasting your eyes on the impressive churches of Alcobaça and Batalha Monasteries, stop for lunch in picturesque Nazaré. The beauty of this quaint fishing village is further enhanced by the panoramic views of the Atlantic coastline and delicious Portuguese dishes. After loading up your camera with a tonne of stunning photos, head back to Lisbon.
