  • Overview & Itinerary
    Overview

There are so many good places to eat tapas in Barcelona, but, for the crème de la crème of tapas bars, you’re going to need a local to point you in the right direction. This food tour puts you in touch with the perfect candidate: a local foodie-guide who knows the city and its tapas scene through and through. Taking place through the streets of cool neighbourhoods El Poble-sec and El Raval, this three-hour group tour visits only the best tapas bars: ones that are beloved by locals; ones that are a little more difficult for the tourist throngs to find; and the ones serving up the most interesting, exciting and delicious food and drink.

Think of this experience as a more civilised version of a bar crawl. There are four stops all up, and you’ll have a drink and tapas in each of them. Though super-informative (you’ll be regaled with tidbits about Barcelona’s food culture, history and day-to-day life throughout the tour), guides take a relaxed approach, and it’s all about having a good time. By the end of the evening, you’ll be friends with everyone smart enough to sign up for this cracker of a tour.

    About your guide

The Barcelona Urban Adventures team know a thing or two about putting together a stellar tour, and they’ve got the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence to prove it. Their experiences give travellers a taste of local life, exploring the culture and traditions that make the Catalan capital so darn special.

    Here’s the plan…

Meet your English-speaking guide in front of the Art Centre Santa Monica at the bottom of La Rambla. Over the next three hours you’ll be heading to the little-known local tapas bars in the city, beloved for their atmosphere, drinks and, of course, their tapas. Each of the bars on the list has its own vibe – from cool and modern drinking holes to traditional Catalan-style wine bars – and each of them reveal a side to Barcelona’s culture that most travellers just don’t get to uncover.

Yep, the tour centres around spots off the standard tourist trail – in neighbourhoods like El Poble-sec, Barcelona’s “dry village” (it’s anything but), and the once rough turned cool El Raval. Between bars, you’ll ramble through a labyrinth of little old streets, lively parks and beautiful boulevards.

There’s a lot of ace stuff you’ll be trying on the tour. A few of the culinary highlights include: pintxo, patatas bravas, banderilla, croquettes, and pimientos de Padrón. Drinks-wise, red and white wine, vermut and tinto de verano are all on the agenda. Between bites, your guide will fill you in on the local gastronomic specialties as you try them, share some interesting anecdotes about the city's history and relay some funny tidbits about local life here too. Rest assured, you will absolutely not leave hungry.

Voucher Information : No need to print! You can show your voucher on your smartphone or other devices. (But if you’d rather print a copy – that’s fine too!)

The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details. They’re a nice bunch, and will happily answer any logistical questions you may have. Please give the Barcelona Urban Adventures team a call at least 24 hours before the activity is due to start to reconfirm the details.

This experience is best suited to adults. Little ones under the age of 14 years will have to sit this one out, we’re afraid. We’re going to state the obvious now, so bear with us: alcoholic drinks can only be consumed by people aged 18 years and over. If you’re particularly fresh-faced, you may be asked to show your ID – take it as a compliment.

We’ll be pounding the pavement between bars, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.

This tour is best kept small. The group will have no more than 12 people signed up on any given day.

Tipping is not compulsory, but if you liked your tour in Barcelona, it’s a nice way to say thanks. We know your guide will appreciate it.
