  • Overview

Barcelona, one of the most pulsating cities in Europe, is great for a photographic adventure. A bustling contemporary metropolis filled with friendly people who have a passion for life, Barcelona is a city where people prefer the outdoors. History and modernity co-exist peacefully and contribute to the colourful and rich mosaic of Barcelona’s attractions. A must-see is the Casa Mila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by the Spanish surrealist Antoni Gaudí, Casa Milà Barcelona is an apartment building with a fanciful aura. Wavy walls made of rough-chipped stone suggest fossilized ocean waves, while doors and windows look like they are dug out of sand. A comical array of chimney stacks dances across the roof.

This specially designed photography tour will help you to discover and experience a city through the eyes of a local photographer. Your guide-cum-photographer has an in-depth local knowledge, a passion for the city and for the art of photography.

Capture some of Barcelona’s most enduring landmarks on camera and preserve magical memories of this holiday. Let each photograph carry your distinctive signature!

The tour starts from the entrance of La Pedrera (Casa Mila).

As you walk down Paseo de Gracia and Las Ramblas to Plaza Catalunya, you will photograph street performers, pet sellers, strolling locals and tourists. Barcelona is a city where people live outdoors.

One of Barcelona’s major attraction is its magnificent architecture. From Roman remains to its modernist buildings, you can see Barcelona’s history set in stone. In particular you will see the outstanding contribution of architect Antoni Gaudi as you photograph the outside of two of his masterpieces - La Pedrera (Casa Mila ), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Casa Batlo. Casa Milà is an apartment building with a fanciful aura. Wavy walls made of rough-chipped stone suggest fossilized ocean waves, while doors and windows look like they are dug out of sand. The stone façade of Casa Batlo is decorated with coloured glass fragments, ceramic circles, and mask-shaped balconies, while the undulating, scaled roof is reminiscent of a dragon's back.

Another of Barcelona’s famous attractions is its gastronomy. You will experience the colours, taste and smells of La Boqueria, the best food market in Barcelona. Here, you have an ideal opportunity to learn and experiment in shooting in low light and metering for different subjects.

Arrive at the Barri Gotico, the old part of town and walk along the original Roman road between medieval walls to photograph the narrow streets and town squares.

Finally, at Paseo de Borne near Parque Ciudella, if you have brought a digital camera your guides will give you a critique of some of the photos that you have taken.

At the end of the session your photographer-guide will review some of the photos taken. You will have learnt the basics of composition, the importance of light in photography, how to take balanced and attractive images, and simple techniques to take "creative" images.

The tour ends at Paseo de Borne.
