Trailing the outback we love and enjoy so much, we will begin our first day at around 6am in the morning from Alice Springs and make our first stop at Erldunda for a delicious buffet breakfast. A lovely drive takes us to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, with our freshly packed lunches in tow. Arriving at Kata Tjuta, we embark on the first walk of our day to awe-inspiring Walpa Gorge all while soaking up some of the best views of the Outback.
Our tryst with the Aborigines of Uluru is up next, heading into the Aboriginal Cultural Centre first to learn about the Pitjantjatjara people, especially the local Anangus, and what the land of so sacred for them. The experience continues with the guided Mala Walk, ascending the north-west side of Uluru and getting an insider’s look into the Anangu spiritualism as well as history with a chance to admire ancient rock art and listen to their Dreamtime tales of Tjukurpa or the Creation. It is an experience like no other. Besides marvelling at the beautiful terrain strewn with huge boulders hiding a surreal oasis, you will discover how the waterhole was originally a hunting ground and the tales of how Mutitjulu came to be.
Our day concludes with a magical experience at Uluru - watching a spectacular sunset while digging into an authentic Aussie barbecue paired with sparkling wine. After the sunset and BBQ, we’ll drop you back to your chosen accommodation for the night.
Our second day commences at the break of dawn, as we make our way to Kings Canyon and witness the entire region coming to life against the backdrop of a dazzling sunrise. Savour the real feel of being the Australian Outback, the remoteness of being in the middle of nowhere, as you spot wild dromedary camels, kangaroos, brumbies and dingoes. We arrive at Kings Creek Station, a cattle and camel station, where we stop for a while at a café to relax for a bit and dig into a delicious breakfast along with a cup of what locals claim to be the best coffee in the Northern Territory.
Our Kings Canyon excursion begins with us embarking on the famous Rim Walk. Located in the heart of Watarrka National Park, the magnificent Canyon is nestled amidst an ancient Australian landscape that is sacred ground for the Ulpanyali and Lilla people. Surrender yourself to the 6 km walk, which is breathtaking to say the least, as you ascend a 100 metre cliff face and trek along the canyon rim while feasting your eyes on spellbinding views of a terrain dotted with sandstone walls, grottos, chasms and cliffs.
Descending down the cliffs, we will make a trip to the dreamy oasis - Garden of Eden - housing a natural spring waterhole surrounded by local and exotic plants as well as trees such as gums, bonsai looking trees and enormous prehistoric ferns. Trust us when we say that you might just feel like you have escaped back into a time long lost to the earthly evolution. Taking the whole experience a notch higher is the Creek Bed Walk which allows you to really get up close with Kings Canyon. Although, much more leisurely than the Rim Walk, the 2 km stroll makes for a one-of-a kind vantage point to really appreciate the grand presence of this topographical gem.
Our last stop for the day is the delightful Kings Canyon Resort whether you can dig into a sumptuous lunch (At your own expense). Before embarking on our panoramic return journey which drops you back to Alice Springs around 7:30pm and Ayers Rock around 5:30pm, you can even indulge in an optional scenic helicopter flight through the gorges (available only for the Creek Bed walkers) or take a rejuvenating dip in the resort pool - bringing your 2 days trail to a memorable end.
