Experience Rio de Janeiro with us

A city deserving of it’s nickname, ‘Ciudad Maravillosa’ (Marvelous City), outdoorsy types and city slickers alike quickly fall under the spell of Rio de Janeiro. The second largest city in Brazil, Rio’s sprawling metropolis is punctuated by mountain peaks, interspersed with jungle, and borders 23 stunning surf beaches. While the world-famous Copacabana Beach is home to teeny-tiny bikinis and fresh coconuts, the bohemian Santa Teresa streets are where all things quirky, artsy and cultural thrive. See the city from above with Christ the Redeemer at your side, take the funicular up to Sugar Loaf or play Icarus and paraglide. The only thing better than this city is its people. The Cariocas are friendly, forward and flamboyant by day and outrageous by night. When afternoons roll around, take a siesta, sip a caipirinha and get ready to samba like you have never samba’d before.

Our tips for Rio de Janeiro

  • Don’t overlook the classics. Popular Rio de Janeiro attractions like Sugar Loaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer take pride of place on every Rio bucket list and they definitely live up to the hype.
  • Eat up. You don’t need to splash the cash in order to find delicious and authentic food in Brazil. Look out for ‘por kilo’ restaurants, which allow guests to pile up their plates with churrasco (barbecued meats) and Feijoada (a hearty stew of black beans, pork and rice) and pay next to nothing!
  • Party in Lapa. When planning your nighttime Rio de Janeiro sightseeing agenda, trade in the high-end nightclubs and hefty cover charges of Ipanema and Leblon for the street parties of Lapa. You’ll find pop up Caipi stands, live-music and lusty locals samba-ing past dawn in Rio’s edgy red-light district.

Good to know

Plan your Rio de Janeiro day trips during summer (from December to mid-March) to make the most of the beaches and exquisite natural wildlife here. If you’re considering what to do in Rio de Janeiro, plan to visit in February for the Carnival. The city during Carnival is heaving though, so expect to find the city heaving and be sure to book your Rio Janeiro tours well in advance.
