Golden Circle Tour:
Visit Geysir, the original hot-water spout after which all other geysers are named. The Great Geysir gives its name to all the hot springs in the world. Though Geysir was once active for 800 years and is now inactive, the very impressive Strokkur shoots an impressive 15m to 30m plume every 5 to 10 minutes.
Continue to the picturesque waterfall Gullfoss ('Golden Waterfall'), located in the canyon of Olfusa river. Located on the Hvítá river and fed by Iceland´s second biggest glacier, the Langjökull, Gullfoss is one of the most popular tourist attraction in Iceland and part of the Golden Circle. Explore the waterfalls edge, experience the the forces and beauty of untouched nature and feel the mist of the glacial water on your face. The waterfall gives the illusion of falling straight into an abyss, but in reality, it falls into a crevice which is 32 metres deep.
Proceed to the Þingvellir National Park, rich with historic and geological significance. The Mid - Atlantic Ridge – the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates is clearly visible here. See the line where Iceland is slowly being pulled apart as North America veers west and Eurasia moves east. Þingvellir is also a UNESCO WORLD Heritage Site and a place where Iceland’s stark geological processes are playing out right in front of you.
Arrive back in Reykjavík at 4:30pm. Relax for a few hours before going for the Lava Tube Cave tour.
The Lava Tunnel:
Explore the magnificent lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and most famous lava tubes in Iceland. See the inner workings of a volcanic eruption while walking the path of a lava that flowed thousands of years ago.
The lava tunnel promises an even more spectacular experience during the winters as unique ice sculptures are formed.
After the tour, you will be dropped off to the starting point.
