Make your way to Reykjavík's Old Harbour at Ægisgarður 5, 101 Reykjavík
The tour ends at starting point.
Get acquainted with the charismatic puffin, also known as ‘clown of the ocean’ or ‘sea parrot’ due to their colourful appearance and curious behaviour. Iceland has the largest Atlantic Puffin colony in the world, which makes it the ideal place to get up close to these wonderful birds. You will have ample opportunity to photograph the birds in their natural habitat, either on the Akurey Island or Lundey Island.
In order not to disturb the breeding of the puffins, the tour will not disembark on either one of the islands, but instead observe the birds from a distance. Depending on the tides, you can expect to get 5 to 10 metres away from the puffins. The puffins are known to stay quite still, so you will be able to get great photos as souvenirs!
Make your way to Reykjavík's Old Harbour at Ægisgarður 5, 101 Reykjavík to meet your guide.
The two colonies close to Reykjavik are on the Akurey Island (12, 000 puffins) and Lundey Island (10,000 puffins). The first puffins come to shore in April after a long winter on the sea and return again in August. You will visit one of these islands, depending on the sea and wind conditions.
You will get to observe the playful, adorable puffins in their natural habitat; on the rocky cliffs, on the water and in flight. Make sure to bring your camera, you are bound to get great photographs!
After your tour, you will return to Reykjavik.
