Overview

Embark on an adventurous hike over Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe, and witness the magnificence of the ice caves first-hand.

After leaving Reykjavik, head to the Falljökull glacier tongue from where your ice caving and glacier hiking will start. Accessible only during winters, ice caves are formed when the temperature drops below zero and the waters from the rivers that run beneath the glacier freezes. Each year new caves are formed at different locations. Before stepping across the ice, you will receive a safety briefing from your certified glacier guide, ensuring all your equipment is correctly fastened.

Spend an hour observing the shapes and sizes of the icicles before hiking back over the glacier, through a tricky landscape of rugged ice.

Voucher information: Sorry, but we will need you to print a paper version of your booking voucher (we're working on changing this). At this time no refund can be given for customers without a printed copy of their voucher.

Meeting Point Info: To reach Skaftafell from Reykjavik, rent a car and drive the main road #1 towards the east from Reykjavík. The drive takes approximately 4 hours. You will see a sign for Skaftafell. Turn into the Skaftafell visitor center and you can find the office at the edge of the parking lot in the strawbale house with the turf roof.

Ice caves are an ever-changing natural phenomenon and, therefore, unpredictable. We will visit one ice cave during the tour and the choice of a cave is based on conditions and safety.

Wear warm outdoor clothing, waterproof jacket and pants, headwear and gloves.

Good hiking shoes are recommended and can be rented if you do not have them.
