Overview

What better way to mark the 50th year Independence of a country than a museum showcasing artworks and artefacts from all over the globe. The Art and History Museum in Belgium was established for the same reason and more than a museum, it seems like a homage to all things ancient and unusual found all over the world.

The museum is one of the biggest museums in Europe and its gargantuan collection includes art treasures, historical objects, artefacts from pre-historic times, Egyptian sarcophagi, Greek vases, mosaic floor from Apamea and a model of Ancient Rome. There is a large section dedicated to pre-Columbian art and then you will see an enormous statue from Easter Island. Walk and explore until 600,000-odd artefacts and art objects overwhelm you.

As you tour from one section to the other, you will see the progression of different civilizations over time.
