Enjoy an awe-inspiring Northern Island tour and explore the beautiful coastline including a visit to the majestic Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. There’s also the perfect opportunity to add-on a range of stunning locations such as Dunluce Castle, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and a whiskey tasting at Bushmills.
The tour begins from Belfast International Youth Hostel where we will board an air-conditioned coach to travel along the famous Antrim Coast Road, with views across Scotland. Listen to an interesting live commentary as you marvel at the breathtaking scenery of the Antrim Coast and the Glens of Antrim.
As you leave Belfast, there will be a short photo-stop at Carrickfergus Castle, the best preserved Norman castle in the area. Our first main stop of the day is a treat for adventure enthusiasts where you can savour an adrenaline-pumping trip across the swinging Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and back again (March - October only, weather permitting). The bridge spans a chasm some 30 metres deep and 20 metres wide. Earlier it consisted of just a single handrail and widely spaced slats which fishermen would traverse across with salmon caught off the island.
Moving on, we will arrive at the main highlight of the tour, the Giants Causeway, Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site, to view its incredible rock formations. Dotted around the coast, you will come across small sheltered harbors and slipways, fishermen’s cottages and rock formations. Spend some time climbing over the ancient stones, before making a retreat to one of the tempting cafes or restaurants at the Causeway for lunch (payable direct).
Having soaked up the beauty of this exquisite natural wonder, we will re-board our luxury coach to move on to the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery at Bushmills. Founded in 1608, it is the only Irish distillery using 100% malted barley in its whiskies, in a range which includes Bushmills Original, Black Bush and a range of malts, including the Bushmills 12-year old malt. Take a shot at browsing the extensive gift shop and make a highly-recommended visit to the Bar to have a swift taste or two of the famous tipple (payable direct)!
Our final destination for this activity packed day is a visit to one of the most extensive ruins of a medieval castle in Northern Ireland, Dunluce Castle. Admire the breathtaking scenery all around as you make a trip back in time to explore this gorgeous place before heading back home comfortably to Belfast in our AC coaches.
