Chiang Mai Airport
The Wat Phra Dhat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, which is also called the ‘Rose of the North’, is more than 3,500 feet above sea level! Climb its 290 steps and explore Northern Thailand's most sacred temple, which contains some relics of the Buddha. The colourful Orchid and Butterfly Farms at Chiang Mai are informative while some traditional handicrafts can be picked up from San Kampaeng.
Day 1: Bangkok – Ayutthaya – Lopburi – Phitsanuloke
You will be picked up from your hotel in Bangkok in the morning and depart for northern Thailand. The first stop is at Bang Pa In, the former summer residence of the kings of Ayutthaya, built in the 18th century. Here, you will visit the Royal Palace, the Thai Pavilion, the Chinese-style Palace Vihat Chamrun with its bushes trimmed in elephant shapes.
Continue to Ayutthaya, which used to be the former royal Siamese capital and visit the most interesting temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Proceed to Lopburi, visiting Phra Prang Sam Yod, a temple with three towers and impressive ornaments as well as the shrine of the Hindu Goddess Kali at the Sarn Prakarn Temple. Lunch at a local restaurant then continue on to Phitsanuloke. Spend the night at the Topland Hotel or similar accommodation.
Day 2: Phitsanuloke – Sukhothai – Sri Satchanalai – Lampang
After breakfast at the hotel, you will proceed to Sukhothai, the 13th century first capital of the Thai Kingdom. Old Sukhothai is one of Asia’s most important historical sites and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After visiting the temples of Wat Sra Sri and Wat Sri Chum, continue to Sri Satchanalai, the former sister town of Sukhothai for lunch followed by a visit to some of its most interesting temples and ruins. Drive further north to Lampang where accommodation will be provided at the Lampang River Lodge or similar accommodation.
Day 3: Lampang – Lamphun – Chiang Mai
After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the famous temples in Lampang, Wat Phra Dhat Lampang Luang and Wat Phra Keo Don Tao before proceeding to Lamphun. Visit Wat Haripoonchai, a Burmese-style temple. Finally, arrive at Chiang Mai and stop for lunch. Drive to the holy mountain temple Wat Phra Dhat Doi Suthep.
Continue to your accommodation at The Park Hotel or si,milar accommodation.
Day 4: Chiang Mai
Have breakfast at the hotel. Go on to visit an elephant camp to see how elephants work and maybe take an optional elephant ride. Visit the Orchid and Butterfly Farm before stopping for a local lunch.
Continue to the handicraft villages at San Kampaeng and see and shop for various traditional handicrafts. Return to The Park Hotel.
Day 5: Depart Chiang Mai
Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the hotel to Chiang Mai Airport for your departure flight.
