CAPE OF SOUNION SUNSET TOUR
Greece is nothing without its history, legends, and mythology. The tour follows a scenic route along the Apollo Coast to Cape Sounion that offers stunning views of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens's most beautiful suburbs such as Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza; and finally arriving at the southern coast of the gorgeous Athenian Riviera. Once you reach the cape, you can marvel at the magnificent Temple of Poseidon dedicated to the Greek God of the Sea.
Stand upon the cliff, believed to be the place where King Aegeus threw himself off when he saw his son Theseus’ ship with black sails. The sunset is mesmerizing from this point and you will see it slowly fading off the horizon - a sight we can guarantee you will never forget!

The tour to Cape Sounion went well. Left on bus from our end of the Plakas pick up point around 4:30 and got there about 6:30, with two brief stops enroute for photo opportunities. Sunset not till 8:15, so we nestled in the windy cafe adjacent to the Temple and got snacks and drinks while we waited. This evening the sunset was somewhat blocked by clouds and a small mountain but still powerful. Back on bus a little after 8:30 and faster return, with no stops and little traffic. The Temple looked similar to half a dozen temples we have seen around Greece so far, but excellent top of the mountain perspective and not a bad walk up to it.
1 issue with the trip was that we had to pay to get up to poseidon ruins which we were never told of. the trip from Athens was nice on an A/C coach with a few others all english speaking and having audio commentary added to the journey. some nice pictures and destination was worth it.
