A whole range of exciting wildlife experiences await you on the 2- Day Selingan Turtle Island and Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary tour. The trip starts from Kota Kinabalu but please note that airfares are not included in the price.

Day 1: Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan and Selingan Turtle Island

The day starts at 0600h (06:00am) with a transfer from your hotel to Kota Kinabalu airport for flight MH2042 to Sandakan.

Upon arrival in Sandakan, transfer to the jetty for the boat ride to Selingan Turtle Island, one of several islands specially protected to conserve turtles and other marine animals. A guide will go with you on this tour.

The journey to the island will take 45 minutes to 1 hour. When you arrive, you will register at Turtle Island Parks HQ and check into the Chalet. After lunch at the cafeteria, you will be free to enjoy the beach or go swimming or snorkeling.

In the evening, a ranger will take you to see female green turtles laying eggs in the sand.

Sea turtles are reptiles that spend the majority of their lives in the ocean. Females may take up to 40 years to reach reproductive age, often returning to the beach of their birth to breed. Both green and hawksbill turtles nest on Selingan but you are most likely to see the green turtles.

You will be able to observe the release of tiny turtle hatchlings carefully nurtured under the Selingan Turtle Island breeding program. See them launched into the sea to follow their natural life-cycle.

You will stay overnight at the Selingan Park Chalet on the island. It has comfortable rooms with air conditioning and fresh towels. There is a shared bathroom and toilet on the lower ground floor. You will eat dinner at the Cafeteria.

Day 2: Selingan to Sandakan, Sepilok and Proboscis Lodge

Breakfast early at the Cafeteria and take the boat back to Sandakan, then travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center.

Founded in 1964, this excellent center specializes in looking after orphan orang utans and returning them to the wild equipped with the survival skills they need. The site covers 43 sq km of protected land at the edge of Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve. Today around 60 to 80 orang utans are living free in the reserve.

At 1000h (10:00am), witness the feeding of the orang utans and enjoy a walk in the forest before departing for Sandakan.

You will have lunch at Sandakan Hotel followed by a short tour of Sandakan including a stop at the Puh Jih Syh Chinese Buddhist Temple, which offers a panoramic view of Sandakan Bay. You will then be taken to the airport for the flight back to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu, you will be transferred back to your hotel (extra charge applies).
